Files / folders can not be accessed in Windows Vista or Windos 7

For those of us who are used to using Windows XP and then move to Windows 7, might be experiencing some problems. One of them when we get a file from another computer or from the internet at times this file we can not open, copy, delete and other access (Access denied), even though we are logged in with administrator privileges. Why does this happen and how to fix this?

Windows Vista and Windows 7 apply security (security) is more than the previous windows, one of Access control to the file or object on the computer. Only users, groups or computers that have been given permission to the file can access it. The goal is to better secure your computer from unauthorized users to access files / particular object, though this sometimes inconvenient (because even if we log on and have administrator access rights, we still can not access it)

When we get our computer files from outside then we can not open it, delete or even to copy, most likely, these files do not have a user or group is allowed access. To check this we can right-click this file and select properties, then see the Security tab.

From the above shows that this file is no user or group is allowed to access it. So open the file, delete or copy files will not work.

Give File Permissions

To overcome the above, we must add a user or group who has access to the file. Do the following:

Right-click the file and select properties (we must have access rights administrators), then open the Security tab
Click the Edit button, then will appear Security settings
Click the Add button to add the user (user / group)

If we want everyone to be able to access, can we add user everyone, or we add to our course, in accordance with the currently logged user. Click Check Names to check that we enter the registered or not.
Once the user is added, then we can set access rights to be given, such as: Modify, Read & Execute, Read, Write also Special Permission.

Then click OK, and should this file we can access in accordance with the access rights that we give

How to Cleaning the Video Projectors

Make a Crossover Cable

This document shows how to properly construct a Crossover network cable. This cable can be used to directly connect two computers to each other without the use of a hub or switch. The ends on a crossover cable are different from each other, whereas a normal 'straight through' cable has identical ends.

what is needed ?

Cable - Be sure the cable(s) you are using is properly rated for CAT 5.

Connectors - Crossover cables are terminated with CAT 5 RJ-45 (RJ stands for "Registered Jack") modular plugs.

Crimper - You will need a modular crimping tool.

Stripper - used to strip the jackets off of cabling.

Cutters - You need a pair of cutters that will allow you to cut a group of cables in a straight line.

lets get started!!!

Start by stripping off about 2 inches of the plastic jacket off the end of the cable. Be very careful at this point, as to not nick or cut into the wires, which are inside. Doing so could alter the characteristics of your cable, or even worse render is useless. Check the wires, one more time for nicks or cuts. If there are any, just whack the whole end off, and start over.
Spread the wires apart, but be sure to hold onto the base of the jacket with your other hand. You do not want the wires to become untwisted down inside the jacket. Category 5 cable must only have 1/2 of an inch of 'untwisted' wire at the end; otherwise it will be 'out of spec'. At this point, you obviously have ALOT more than 1/2 of an inch of un-twisted wire, but don't worry - well take care of that soon enough.
Up to this point, things have been pretty easy. Things will get a little bit tricky here, but don't worry, we'll get through this together. We are at a point in this article where a decision needs to be made. You need to decide which end of the cable you are making at this point in time. If you are making your cable from scratch like I am doing while writing this article, you have 2 end jacks, which must be installed on your cable. If you are using a pre-made cable, with one of the ends whacked off, you only have one end to install - the crossed over end. Below are two diagrams, which show how you need to arrange the cables for each type of cable end. Decide at this point which end you are making and examine the associated picture below.
Begin to untwist the twisted exposed wires on your cable. Use caution so that you do not untwist them down inside the jacket. Once you have all the wires untwisted begin to arrange them in the proper order based on the pictures above. This stage can be a pain in the ass, especially some of the middle wires. Once you get all the wired arranged in the proper order, make sure your wire cutters are within reach then grasp them right at the point where they enter the jacket. Make sure you keep them in the proper order! Grab your cutters now. Line them up along your prepared wires about 1/2 inch above the jacket. Be sure at this point that you are both 1/2 inch above the jacket, and that your cutters are aligned straight across the wires. You want to make a clean cut here - also make sure you don't let go of that jacket / wires!
Don't worry. From this point forward things get a lot easier. Grab your jack, and begin to slide the wires into the jack. Once you get to the point where the jacket begins to enter the jack things might get a little tough, but just have some patience and hold onto those wires. It will fit in there just fine. Once it is in as far as it will go the wires should extend almost to the front of the jack, and about 3/8 of an inch of the jacket will be inside the jack. Like the pictures below.
Grab those crimpers - because not all crimpers are exactly the same your pictures may not match exactly what you see below. Be sure to keep a good grip on that jack and the cable. Inserting the jack into the crimper. It should only go in one way, so you don't have a whole lot to worry about inserting it. Begin to compress those crimpers. You will more than likely hear a clicking sound. Keep squeezing. If you try to let go to early, nothing will happen. They will not release. Keep going until they stop clicking / stop moving all together. At this point, you should be able to let go of the jack, and the crimpers. The crimpers should release now leaving you with a crimped jack. If the crimpers do not release, you probably are a wimp and didn't press hard enough. Go ask your mom to help you at this point. She can probably finish what you started.
It's time to examine what we have done. If you look at the end of the jack (distal), you should see that the copper connectors should not be pressed down into the wires. Toward the back of the jack (where the jacket meets the jack) it should be crimped securely holding the jacket / cable in the jack. If something has gone wrong, don't worry, its not the end of the world. Grab those cutters, and just whack the whole jack off and start back at step 1 (a pain in the ass I know, but its better to have a cable that works, than to spend hours trouble shooting your PC trying to figure out why you can't see the other machine). If everything is cool, all you have to do now is make the other end of the cable (unless you are using a pre-fab cable and have whacked one of the ends off), so go back to step one, and make the other end now.

You should now have a fully functional CAT 5 Crossover cable. It's a good idea to label it as such, especially if you have a lot of other cables lying around. So what are ya waiting for... install the cable and test it out. If it doesn't work, double-check the ends. There is always a possibility that you have overlooked something. If so just whack the bad end and make new one. Remember the more jacks you install, and the more cables you make, the easier it gets. It's really not that hard to do, the first time is definitely the most difficult.

Here are a few other things to keep in mind...

Maximum Cable length for including connectors is 100 meters (or about 328 feet)
Do not allow the cable to be sharply bent, or kinked, at any time. This can cause permanent damage to the cables' interior
Do not overtighten cable ties
Do not use excessive force when pulling cable through floors, walls or ceilings
Do not use staples to secure category-5 cable, use the proper hangers, which can be found at most hardware stores

Straight and Crossover cable

Common Ethernet network cable are straight and crossover cable. This Ethernet network cable is made of 4 pair high performance cable that consists twisted pair conductors that used for data transmission. Both end of cable is called RJ45 connector.

The cable can be categorized as Cat 5, Cat 5e, Cat 6 UTP cable. Cat 5 UTP cable can support 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network, whereas Cat 5e and Cat 6 UTP cable can support Ethernet network running at 10/100/1000 Mbps. You might heard about Cat 3 UTP cable, it's not popular anymore since it can only support 10 Mbps Ethernet network.

Straight and crossover cable can be Cat3, Cat 5, Cat 5e or Cat 6 UTP cable, the only difference is each type will have different wire arrangement in the cable for serving different purposes.

Crossover Cable

Sometimes you will use crossover cable, it's usually used to connect same type of devices. A crossover cable can be used to:

Connect 2 computers directly.
Connect a router's LAN port to a switch/hub's normal port. (normally used for expanding network)
Connect 2 switches/hubs by using normal port in both switches/hubs.

In case you need to make a crossover cable yourself! You can use this crimper to do it.

Lastly, if you still not sure which type of cable to be used sometimes, try both cables and see which works.

Note: If there is auto MDI/MDI-X feature support on the switch, hub, network card or other network devices, you don't have to use crossover cable in the situation which I mentioned above. This is because crossover function would be enabled automatically when it's needed.

Straight Cable

You usually use straight cable to connect different type of devices. This type of cable will be used most of the time and can be used to:

Connect a computer to a switch/hub's normal port.
Connect a computer to a cable/DSL modem's LAN port.
Connect a router's WAN port to a cable/DSL modem's LAN port.
Connect a router's LAN port to a switch/hub's uplink port. (normally used for expanding network)
Connect 2 switches/hubs with one of the switch/hub using an uplink port and the other one using normal port.

Hibernation is enabled by default in Windows 7. Hibernate your Windows 7 system will enable you to quickly restore to existing system state and intact workspace instead of start afresh, run programs and open your documents one by one again. If you do not use the hibernate feature , and want to delete hiberfil.sys and then recover the space occupied by the big hibernation storage file, the hibernation function can be turned off and disabled.

You must log on to Windows 7 with user account in Administrators group to perform these action.

Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the search results list,click Command Pr0mpt or Cmd.
If you are pr0mpted by User Account Control for permission, click Continue.
At the command pr0mpt, type : " powercfg.exe -h off ", and then press ENTER: powercfg.exe -h off

Note: User must be an administrator in order to open the Local Group Policy Editor

Here is step-by-step instruction on showing you how to do it:

1. First you need to confirm that you have enabled file and printer sharing on network card. Go to the network card's properties window, ensure that you already tick File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.

2. After that go to Network and Sharing Center window, check the network location type of your computer. I would advise you to use Private network since you are doing printer sharing in home network. If your network location type is Public, check here on how to change network location type.

Note: Also I would advise you to set the same Workgroup name for all computers in the same network. This is the short help on how to set computer name and workgroup in Windows 7.

3. Scroll down to the Sharing and Discovery section, turn on printer sharing. Click Apply to make changes, finally click OK to close all windows.

4. Now it's time to do actual printer sharing! Proceed to go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Printers window, right click the printer that you wish to share and click on Sharing

5. The printer properties window will appear, go to Sharing tab and click on Change sharing options.

6. Tick on Share this printer to share the printer. You can also tick on Render print jobs on client computers if you like. Click Apply and OK at last.

Note: If this printer is shared with other users that use computer with Itanium or x64 processor, you can install additional drivers so that the driver can be downloaded and installed when it's connected. How to do it? Click on Additional Drivers to complete this setup .

7. Finally you will see there are 2 people on the bottom of printer, it means Windows & printer sharing is completed successfully!

How to make Windows XP as a Router | IP Forwarding on Windows XP Professional

The benefit using Windows XP Professional as a Router is you don't have to buy additional router and so can save some money. This approach is not so common practiced in Windows XP, but it works.

As an example, let say you have 10 computers and 2 network switches, and need to create 2 networks that can access Internet, so how to do it? Some more information, one of the computers is equipped with 2 network cards and one of the network cards is connected to cable / DSL modem to access Internet, so this computer will act as a router!

Configure the network cards on the router with following information.

Router (Must Windows XP Professional)

Network Card A (connect to Internet via cable / dsl connection)
This information will be based on the Internet connection service which you have subscribed.
IP: 192.168.1.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway (GW): 192.168.1.1

Network Card B (connect to network A):
IP: 192.168.0.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway (GW): [leave it blank]

Configure all the computers in network B with following information.

Network B
IP: 192.168.0.2-254
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway (GW): 192.168.0.1

1. Go to Start and click Run…, then type in regedit to run registry editor.

Note: Please note that only System Administrator can run registry editor.

2. Registry editor window will appear. Browse for the following registry key at the left hand side window:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters

Right click IPEnableRouter registry object, and click Modify.

Note: Be extra careful when you deal with registry editor, wrong editing will crash you Windows OS.

How To Enable Remote Desktop in Windows 7

Please note that you cannot enable Remote Desktop feature in Vista Home Basic or Home Premium version, you need to use either Vista Business or Ultimate version. Here is how you can do it:

1. Click Start, right click Computer and then click on Properties.

2. The computer properties window will appear, then you click on Remote settings.
Note: You can also open this window by going to Control Panel -> System.

3. Go to Remote tab on the System properties window, then click on Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure) option. You can also click Select Users button to choose the users that can connect to this computer remotely. Finally, click Apply and OK button.

Note: You can only choose that Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure) option if the Remote Desktop client supports Network Level Authentication. If you want to check, just open the client and click on upper left corner icon to open the About window, you will then find out whether it's supported.

Note: By default the current user id that you used to enable this Remote Desktop will be allowed to connect remotely. In this case, administrator already has access as my current logged on user id is adminstrator. You can click Add... to add other users.

Note: Also the Remote Desktop must be enabled as exception on Windows Firewall! If not the traffic will be dropped by this firewall.

Note: Please also make sure Block all incoming connections check box is cleared! If it's check, then no remote connection can be made from other computers.

For example, there's a service running in the background which is called 'Automatic Updates'. I don't know what this service transfers from my machine to other machines on the internet, especially the MS ones. So I play it safe and disable such functions. If you like, you can even disable these functions manually, by going through the System and checking or unchecking some checkboxes. This will take you approximately half an hour. But why wast time when a little neat utility can do the same in 1 minute? This utility was successfully tested by lots of users, and was found to disable all the known 'Suspicious' Functions in WindowsXP. It's customiseable, but comes up with the Default settings, which are recommended.

The Toshiba Mini comes with Intel's smallest processor, the N280 Atom, which averages 1.6Ghz, but you're likely to sacrifice such speed to take advantage of the most battery life of your netbook, down to 1.2 GHz (just a hair above 1Ghz that Windows 7 requires). Asus makes a laptop they call EEE PC that allows you to bump the speed of the Atom processor up to 2Ghz with a click of a button, but will reduce the length of the battery life.

Size Matters

Even with the latest netbooks on the market, you won't find many with more than one slot for RAM and normally max out at 2GB. Windows 7 only uses 1 GB of RAM, even still, you will be limited from running concurrent programs smoothly. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, if all you plan to do is surf the web and write blogs, but as websites inevitably add-on more features, and programs become larger and more resource dependent, eventually your new netbook becomes less useful.

Don't get me wrong, I love the netbook concept and I hope to see improvements in the near future, but you really get what you pay for. If all you want to do is send and receive email, write to you blog, and check your facebook, the netbook is a much more capable device than an iPhone or blackberry by far (and with Google Voice you can even use your laptop as a phone for free). If you need a laptop that you can do more than just surf the web on, I recommend spending the extra couple hundred dollars on a laptop that will last you longer and offer more capability.

The case was made from three 10 ft. 1/2" copper pipes, 32 T connectors, 8 elbow connectors, and a butane torch (connectors had solder already applied which made connecting the beast much easier).

All the cutting and grinding was performed with my cordless Dremel (if I only had a pipe cutter). The pic pretty much speaks for construction itself. The corners each have two horizontal bars for support and to act as handles.

The hardest parts are making sure all the pipes for mounting the hardware were in the correct places since mounting on a 1/2" cylinder doesn't give you much leeway for errors. Additionally, a new top right mounting hole for the PSU had to be drilled so that the top left and right holes were both aligned rather than staggered as on most standard power supplies.

When finally completed, the case is much lighter than one would expect and as strong as a tank.

Installation (ON A NEW COPY OF PES):
**all steps are required**

Decompress the file (extract only one part, all parts will be be extracted in the same destination)
Copy (PES2009_EDIT01.bin) and (PES2009_OPTION01.bin) from the save folder in the patch to the SAVE folder of the game, should be (C:Documents and SettingsUSERMy DocumentsKONAMIPro Evolution Soccer 2009save), replace old files if it asks.
Backup then Replace (pes2009.exe) and (settings.exe) with the ones given.
Copy the kitserver folder in the Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 installation folder, should be: (C:Program FilesKONAMIPro Evolution Soccer 2009), then open the kitserver folder and run (setup.exe) then click install, then close.

P.S.: Directories are the ones by default installation, if you have changed the defaults use your directories.

P.S.: If you are already using previous smoke patch, just delete the old kitserver BEFORE copying the new one, reinstalling the game is not required.

QoS (Quality of Service) provided by the windows is intended to ensure network and provide better service and planned with dedicated bandwidth, but in reality it is not very useful, but that certainly can take up to 20% of the bandwidth of your pc. You can try and see the difference when QoS is disabled.

The steps off QoS in Windows XP and Windows Vista (make sure the status of your account as an administrator):

Click Start > Run
Type "gpedit.msc" in the box, Then press enter
In the Local Computer Policy, click the plus sign on the Computer Configuration, then click again on the Administrative Templates.
Click the plus sign on Network and select QoS Packet Scheduler
On the right side of the box, double-click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth
On the Settings tab, select Enabled
In the Bandwidth Limit% box, replace the contents to be 0%. (Don't leave blank)
Click and restart your computer

Turn on your computer, insert the Windows 7 RC installation disc you created in step 1 into the computer's DVD or CD drive, and then do one of the following:
- If you want to replace your computer's existing operating system with the Windows 7 RC, and you don't need to adjust your disk partitions, go to step 2.
- If your computer doesn't have an operating system installed, or you want to install the RC on another disk partition, restart your computer with the installation disc inserted in your CD or DVD drive. Run Disk Clean Up
Both Windows and application programs tend to leave temporaryfiles lying around on your hard drive, taking up space. A hard drive that is close to being “full” can cause Windows to slow down or interfere with efficient disk access and virtual memory operations.

If you surf the web a lot, your temporary internet files folder can become quite large, causing Internet Explorer to slow down or malfunction. Cleaning up unneeded files, scanning for disk errors and defragmenting the hard drive can help to restore some zip to your system. Try to run once a month for peak performance.

1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
2. Right-click on the C: drive
3. Select Properties
4. Click the Disk Cleanup button (to the bottomright of the Capacity piegraph)
5. Select / check Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin
6. Click OK

Enable Direct Memory Access (DMA)
1. Right-click on My Computer, select Properties
2. Select the Hardware tab
3. Click the Device Manager Button
4. Double-click IDE/ATAPI controllers

Disable File Indexing
Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of memory and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. If you don’t search your computer often, this system service is unnecessary. To disable do the following:

1. Click Start button
2. Select the Control Panel
3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs
4. Click the Add/Remove Window Components icon on the left side of the window
5. This may take a few seconds to load. Be patient.
6. Look for the “Indexing Services” component in the list
7. Uncheck the Indexing Services
8. Click Next
9. Click Finish

Remove Un-Used Programs and Files
You may have a bunch of software packages on your hard drive that are no longer needed, or they were gratuitously installed when you downloaded some other package. Toolbars, file-sharing programs, free email enhancers, online shopping "companions" and download managers are notorious for this practice. These uninvited guests can put a big drag on your start-up time, cause web pages to load slowly, and generally bog down your computer.

You may have noticed that every time you open “My Computer” to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers every time you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing speed significantly:

1. Double-click on My Computer
2. Click the Tools menu
3. Select Folder Options
4. Click on the View tab.
5. Uncheck the automatically search for network folders and printers check box
6. Click Apply
7. Click OK
8. Reboot your computer

Reduce Page File Size
Page file size is not constant by default. Due to this, the operating system has to resize the file each time more space is required. This is a performance overhead. All you have to do is to set the file size to a reasonable limit. Follow the steps:

1. Right-click My Computer, Select Properties
2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Click the Settings button under the Performance section
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. Under the Virtual Memory section, click the Change button
6. "Virtual Memory" dialogue box will appear (also shown in the figure below)
7. Highlight the C: drive containing page file
8. Select the Custom Size radio button and give same values in Initial size and Maximum size fields, if you have less than 512MB of memory, leave the page file at its default size. If you have 512MB or more, change the ratio to 1:1 page file size to physical memory size.
9. Click Set, then OK buttons to apply the changes

Disable Extra Startup Programs

There are certain programs that Windows will start every time you boot up your system, and during the start-up phase, they're all competing for a slice of your CPU speed. Extra or unwanted items in the start-up list will definitely increase your start-up time, perhaps by several minutes. Some common examples are things related to WinAmp, Adobe, instant messengers, and video managers.

If you're not sure about an item, no big deal. You can turn it off, restart your PC, and see if everything seems to work. If not, you can always go back and re-enable an item in the Start-up list. This tip alone should speed up your start-up by 250%. Here are is what you have to do:

1. Go to Start button Run
2. Type "msconfig", without quotations
3. Hit enter key or click the OK button
4. A System Configuration Utility window will show up
5. Click the Start-up tab
6. In the Start-up tab you will see several boxes and some of them will select (checked). All you have to do is to uncheck extra items that are of no use. If you run an antivirus program, it is not recommended to uncheck it.
7. After making you choices press the OK button, you will be prompted to restart computer to apply changes.
8. After restarting your computer a dialogue will be displayed. You can check the option for not showing this dialogue every time your PC reboots.

Remove Spyware, Adware, and Malware

Have you scanned your system for spyware, adware and other unwanted pests? One of six computers has some sort of Spyware or Malware! They dramatically slow down your computer because they use resources to generate popup ads, send spam, and often interfere with the operation of good programs.

If you haven’t scanned recently, we recommend a free scan from a good anti-spyware program. We prefer to use stand-alone, high quality anti-spyware programs like XoftSpy Pro, which give us the ability to scan and repair these problems in seconds.

FINAL NOTE: Recent testing has shown that stand-alone programs do a much better job than the “all-in-one” packages (ex. Norton Internet Security) at detecting spyware, adware, and malware.

Turn-Off User Account Control (UAC)
Now, there's a lot of talk about the new User Account Control policy in Vista, and all I can say is that it annoys the heck out of 99% of users and slows down normal computer usage. To turn it off, the easiest way is to:

1. Click the Start (Windows) button
2. Select the Control Panel
3. Type in 'UAC' into the search bar
4. It'll bring up a search result of 'Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off'
5. Just follow the prompts from there

Much better? You might say 'but what's that got to do with speed?' It prompts you at least a couple times an hour and then takes several seconds to figure itself out. Without these annoying prompts, your productivity goes up, so therefore it's a speed enhancer.

Disable Unused Services
Services are background processes which keep running waiting for a response, so if you don’t use the application it still runs and slows PC speed. The average user doesn’t need many running.

1. Click the Start button
2. Type msconfig in the Start Search box, hit enter
3. Click the Services tab
4. Uncheck the unneeded startup items (examples below)

Desktop Window Manager Session Manager - Provides Desktop Window Manager startup and maintenance services. Uncheck to disable.
Diagnostic Policy Service - Enables problem detection troubleshooting and resolution for Windows components. Uncheck to disable.
Diagnostic Service Host - Same as above
Diagnostic System Host - Same as above
Offline Files - The Offline Files service performs maintenance activities on the Offline Files cache. Uncheck to disable.
Terminal Services - Allows users to connect interactively to a remote computer. Remote Desktop and Terminal Server depend on this service. If you don’t use either of these, then you can disable the service. Uncheck to disable.
Windows Error Reporting Service - Allows errors to be reported when programs stop working or responding and allows existing solutions to be delivered. Uncheck to disable.

After you are finished, click Apply then click OK to save changes.

Shutdown Remote Differential Compression
Remote Differential Compression checks the changes of your files over a network to move them with as little bandwidth as possible instead of transferring an entire file that has previously been moved. Obiviously, the average home PC user has NO need for this service. With it constantly checking for file changes, this service will greatly slow system performance.
To shut down this service:

1. Click the Start button
2. Select Control Panel
3. Click Classic View on the left side of the window
4. Double-click on Programs and Features
5. Click Turn Windows Features On and Off on the left side of the window
6. Uncheck Remote Differential Compression
7. Click OK

Shut-Off Windows Hibernation
Windows hibernation background services use a very large amount of system resources. If you are like most people you don’t use the Hibernate feature very much so you may want to disable it to give Vista a performance boost.
To shut down Hibernation:

1. Click the Start button
2. Select Control Panel
3. Click the Classic View on the left hand side
4. Double-click on Power Options
5. Select Change Plan Settings
6. Choose Change Advanced Power Settings
7. Click the Sleep “plus” icon
8. Click the Hibernate After “plus” icon
9. Adjust your selector down to zero minutes
10. Click Apply
