Files / folders can not be accessed in Windows Vista or Windos 7

For those of us who are used to using Windows XP and then move to Windows 7, might be experiencing some problems. One of them when we get a file from another computer or from the internet at times this file we can not open, copy, delete and other access (Access denied), even though we are logged in with administrator privileges. Why does this happen and how to fix this?

Windows Vista and Windows 7 apply security (security) is more than the previous windows, one of Access control to the file or object on the computer. Only users, groups or computers that have been given permission to the file can access it. The goal is to better secure your computer from unauthorized users to access files / particular object, though this sometimes inconvenient (because even if we log on and have administrator access rights, we still can not access it)

When we get our computer files from outside then we can not open it, delete or even to copy, most likely, these files do not have a user or group is allowed access. To check this we can right-click this file and select properties, then see the Security tab.

From the above shows that this file is no user or group is allowed to access it. So open the file, delete or copy files will not work.

Give File Permissions

To overcome the above, we must add a user or group who has access to the file. Do the following:

  1. Right-click the file and select properties (we must have access rights administrators), then open the Security tab
  2. Click the Edit button, then will appear Security settings
  3. Click the Add button to add the user (user / group)
  4. If we want everyone to be able to access, can we add user everyone, or we add to our course, in accordance with the currently logged user. Click Check Names to check that we enter the registered or not.
  5. Once the user is added, then we can set access rights to be given, such as: Modify, Read & Execute, Read, Write also Special Permission.
  6. Then click OK, and should this file we can access in accordance with the access rights that we give

Windows 7 Security

Windows 7 is great operating system with lot of features. It offers wide scale multitasking with ease of security. Microsoft has worked a lot on security of windows 7 and it has lot of security features. Below are some of them:
  • User account control (UAC) is one of the notable features of the Windows 7. By default the low risk administrative actions are less frequently prompted. But admins can modify the prompted sensitivity with the help of a slide bar.
  • In Windows 7 the BitLocker Drive Encryption technology ensures that the documents, passwords, and other data are safe. When you turn on your BitLocker all the files saved on that drive is automatically encrypted.
  • Application Compatibility Toolkit is provided by the Microsoft so that it's easier to troubleshoot and resolve compatible issues. You have to enter in XP mode to avail free downloadable and licensed virtual copy of Windows XP service pack 3. When you install applications in XP mode they seem to be like stand alone apps in Windows 7. After that you can place them as regular desktop icons on the host desktop. It's not much noticeable that the apps are running in virtual mode. You can run internet explorer 6 alongside internet explorer 8 on the same desktop. Before installing XP mode you must download and install Windows Virtual PC which is the new Windows 7 virtualization product.
  • In windows 7 the AppLocker allows the users to define the application execution rules and exception based upon the file attributes such as path, publishers, product name, file name etc. using active directory user can assign policies to computers, users, security groups etc. you cant open or run files that are not allowed specifically.
  • The action center in the control panel makes sure that your firewall is on, the antivirus software is up to date or not, and if your computer is set to install updates automatically.

Step by Step Windows 7 RC Installation

You'll need to do a "clean installation." That means you can't upgrade an existing PC to Windows 7 RC. So if you're using an existing PC and want to keep the information on it, you'll need to back it up before you start.
  1. Turn on your computer, insert the Windows 7 RC installation disc you created in step 1 into the computer's DVD or CD drive, and then do one of the following:

    • If you want to replace your computer's existing operating system with the Windows 7 RC, and you don't need to adjust your disk partitions, go to step 2.
    • If your computer doesn't have an operating system installed, or you want to install the RC on another disk partition, restart your computer with the installation disc inserted in your CD or DVD drive. If you're asked to press a key to boot from DVD or CD, press any key. If the Install Windows page appears, go to step 2.

If the Install Windows page doesn't appear and you're not asked to press a key to start from DVD or CD, you might have to specify that your computer uses its DVD or CD drive as the startup device. See Start Windows from a CD or DVD. After you select your DVD or CD drive as the startup device, restart your computer, and then start Windows from the installation DVD or CD as previously described.
  2. On the Install Windows page, follow the instructions, and then click Install now.
  3. On the Get important updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and protect your computer against security threats. You need an Internet connection to get updates.
  4. On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms. (You must accept to continue the installation.)
  5. On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.
  6. On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, do one of the following:
    • If you don't want to specify a specific partition to install Windows on, or create partitions on your hard disk, click Next to begin the installation.
    • If you already have another existing partition with enough free space and want to install the Windows 7 RC on that partition to create a multiboot configuration, select the partition you want to use, and then click Next to begin the installation. (Be sure to install the RC on a different partition from where your current version of Windows is installed.)
    • If you want to create, extend, delete, or format a partition, click Drive options (advanced), click the option you want, and then follow the instructions. Click Next to begin the installation. (If the Drive options (advanced) option is disabled, you need to start your computer using the installation disc.)
  7. Follow the instructions.
Note about product keys: When you download the RC, you'll be given a product key to use for activation. You don't have to activate when you install the RC, but after 30 days you'll get persistent reminders to activate. If you lost your key or have a disc without a key, just go to the Download page and start the download process. The first step is to register, and that's where you get a product key. You won't need to download the RC. If you have an installation disc, you can get a product key by going to the Download page and following the download process. You just need to give your Windows Live ID and register; you won't need to download the software.
